On Tuesday, July 7, 2026, Google released an update that is highly relevant for content creators and website administrators. In an official announcement published by Moshe Samet, Chief Product Manager of Search Console, Google announced the launch of “Platform Properties” – a feature that allows users to accurately track how social posts and videos are discovered in Google Search and Discover.

We are following this development closely. The ability to measure how search engines index and drive traffic to external platforms can provide SEO professionals, content creators, and website owners with valuable insights into audience behavior in relation to the content they distribute, search trends, and content exposure in Google’s search results.

From a Limited Experiment to an Official Feature

To understand the significance of this announcement, we need to take a small step back. In December 2025, Google announced an early experiment that introduced performance data for social channels within the Search Console Insights report. At that initial stage, the insights were available only to a limited group of websites, and the system identified and associated social channels with a website automatically only. The experiment presented data such as total reach, content performance, and search queries that led users to social profiles.

Now, following the success of the experiment, the feature has been officially and proactively rolled out, allowing anyone to set up and track accounts on Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube.

What Can You Measure Now?

Adding a Platform Property will give you access to three key reports in Search Console:

  • Performance Report: View total clicks, impressions, and additional metrics, with the ability to filter and sort the data to understand which posts and search queries generate the greatest amount of traffic.
  • Insights Report: Get an overview of current traffic trends, top-performing posts, and the ways in which people discover your account on Google.
  • Achievements: Track growth milestones, such as reaching a new target for the total number of clicks from Google Search over the past 28 days.

It is important to note that these properties measure only interactions that take place across Google’s platforms (such as appearances in search results or Discover), and do not track views that occur within the platforms’ own apps (for example, the number of views within the TikTok app).

How Do You Set This Up in Practice?

The process is simple and does not require technical ownership of an entire domain:

  1. Open Search Console.
  2. Go to the verification page, or open the property selection drop-down menu and click “Add property.”
  3. Select one of the four available platforms: Instagram, TikTok, X, or YouTube.
  4. Follow the on-screen verification instructions to securely confirm the connection.

Our Perspective

As noted in the announcement, Platform Properties are being gradually rolled out to users over the coming weeks. However, when we checked our clients’ websites at our agency, we noticed that the platforms have already started appearing in some accounts.

This development creates the ability to connect a website’s organic content strategy with its video and social media presence under a single analytical umbrella, making it possible to gain a deeper understanding of which search queries generate cross-channel interaction. This is another step toward a reality in which SEO and content platform management become one inseparable entity.
